One paternal line, four generations
Traces one paternal line — your father's or your mother's — back four generations, including the children of each generation (your aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles).
Both parents' paternal lines, four generations
Follows the paternal lines of both your father and mother through four generations, including children at each level — a fuller picture of your heritage on both sides.
All four grandparent lines, four generations
The most comprehensive package — traces the paternal and maternal lines of both your father and mother through four generations, all the way to your eight great-grandparents.
Shorter versions are available covering three generations only, excluding the children of each generation. Mini Single Surname — £100 · Mini Double Surname — £180. Get in touch to discuss which option is right for you.
From the first conversation to the final report, here's what's covered as standard across every piece of research.
Every project starts with a no-obligation chat — by email, phone, or video — where we talk through what you're hoping to find out and what you already have. Getting this right at the start makes all the difference.
Access to the key genealogical databases and Scottish archives is built into every package — including birth, marriage and death records, census returns, Old Parish Registers, and military sources. There are no surprise costs for records along the way.
Research is presented as a clear, well-written PDF report with a narrative account of your family history, a pedigree chart, family group sheets, and full citations for every source used. A GEDCOM file can also be provided on request, so you can continue building your tree yourself.
Smaller packages — Mini and Single Surname — are generally ready within 5–6 weeks. Double Surname research tends to take around 7–8 weeks, and Four Line projects around 9–11 weeks. Good genealogy takes time, and every record is carefully checked before anything goes into your report.
To secure your place, a deposit of 50% is taken at the point of booking by bank transfer. The remaining balance is invoiced on completion of the research, with payment due within 14 days. Reports are released once the final balance has been settled.
Research doesn't happen in silence. Throughout your project you'll be kept in the loop on progress, and any questions that come up along the way are always welcome.
The research packages cover the vast majority of what's needed. Occasionally, specific elements of a project carry a small additional charge — these will always be discussed with you in advance and kept to a minimum wherever possible.
Where a full statutory certificate is needed, this is charged at the current official rate and passed on at cost. For England and Wales, GRO certificates are currently £9.25. Scottish certificates from the National Records of Scotland are £12.00 or £15.00 depending on the record type. Every effort is made to avoid certificate costs where free alternative sources — such as baptism records, burial registers, or monumental inscriptions — can serve the same purpose.
Occasionally a piece of research requires specific documents to be obtained directly from an archive — such as a will or a particular historical record. Where this is necessary, the cost is passed on at exactly what was charged, with nothing added.
Some specialist databases — including ScotlandsPeople, the 1939 Register, and Deceased Online — charge per document viewed. Where credits are needed to access records as part of your research, these are charged at the published rate for the credits used.
If visiting a library, archive, or local record office in person is the best way to access a particular source, travel costs are included at cost. Public transport fares are charged as incurred; car mileage is charged at 45p per mile.
Where physical copies of documents or photographs are required from a library or archive, the reproduction charge from that institution is passed on at cost.
Reports are delivered digitally as standard. If you'd prefer a printed hard copy, UK postage is charged at a flat rate of £10. Postage outside the UK is charged at the actual rate applied at the time of sending.
